By this point I've received numerous emails from those of you inquiring about our progress with our Month With Ubuntu article we first talked about in February. We had originally anticipated having it ready by late March or early April and now that we're approaching late April, more than a few people have pointed out this fact.;-)
Unfortunately due to circumstances out of our direct control (unrelated to Ubuntu itself) we have been unable to complete the article as soon as we hoped. With Ubuntu 8.04 scheduled to be released in 6 days and the likelyhood that our article revolving around 7.10 would not be ready until after that release, we have decided to hold back the article in order to incorporate Ubuntu 8.04. This will allow us to include the upgrade experience and use certain more up to date benchmarks.
Assuming Ubuntu 8.04 is released on schedule, we expect that we'll have finished our work with Ubuntu and will have an article up in early May.
As for those of you wondering how our experience has been so far, I'm very impressed in many respects. It's not perfect, there are some deficiencies I'd consider glaring, but we'll talk about that more in the full article.

Are you doing the article on linux or not?If you are, you should use the lates version of Mint. Based on Hardy Heron and better out of box experience.

It's a bit unfortunate that there is still no article or not even a warning that it is delayed again. There isn't that much difference between 7.10-8.04 so if the article of 7.10 was already almost done, I don't see why it is taking so long :s.I'm really looking forward to this article anyway, so I hope it will be here soon!

Yet another month has gone by since this posting with no article. If Anandtech isn't going to cover Linux with any regularity, perhaps it's time to take down the Linux tab and stop teasing us. If actions speak louder than words, it's become pretty clear that Linux isn't a priority -- and honestly, that's okay.This website is primarily geared towards hardware, and I still respect it as my go-to source for hardware news. I just got momentarily excited when a Linux article was dangled before us.
Look at it this way. The three months since this article was first announced represents half a development cycle for Ubuntu, which is just one of over a dozen popular Linux distributions.
The reality is that, if Anandtech was really going to cover Linux and other open-source software, it would need to have some of its writing staff dedicated to covering it. The open-source community just moves too quickly!

I suspected i would be like this. I was looking forward to the review but as always with Linux 'just wait a moment for the next release...'Btw, where is Anand nowdays? Has he made so much $$$ that he doesent 'feel' like working anymore? His blog was ...dead for i dont know how long. Then I read that he's spending a fortune on his house... but i bet he pops in sometimes (email maybe) and critizeses someone thats actually working. (?)

With regards to "glaring deficiencies", I really think you have to take into account the Linux and Ubuntu project philosophies and separate out issues that Linux doesn't do well from ones Linux is prevented from doing well - DMCA and no default DVD playback, MP3 Licensing, proprietary file formats, etc.PrincessNybor - Monday, April 21, 2008 - link
I was beginning to think this article was never going to happen. It's about time you guys put something under your "Linux" tab more recent than 2005!I am glad you guys are including thoughts on Hardy in the review, though. It should be a good read if and when it does finally come out. Ubuntu is growing up fast!
